I connected my Sony DV Camcorder using a 6/4 firewire cable in Win 7, Ubuntu and XP but to no avail. Click on the Close button and exit out of all of the other windows. If you are on Windows 10, or 8 or 8.1 you will need to download the Legacy driver from Microsoft. This fixes the problem 99% of the time. There is too much information available on the internet to indicate the problem is MS and MS is not resolving the issue of Win 7 compatibility with Firewire. Basically device manager says all is ok, latest driverand functioning properly. with no improvement. But, it appears, as of today, that the PC is recognizing these two external HD connected via Firewire 800 and daisy-chained together. After applying above fix it took 13".

If you are still having a problem importing video after you have switched the FireWire driver to Legacy, then the problem may be with the FireWire port.
